1. Information Collected

Personally-Identifiable Information (“Personal Information”)

CI and CI’s service providers only collect Personal Information when you voluntarily submit such information, for example by signing up for the CI newsletter or to donate. CI uses the following tools to collect Personal Information, which are stored by CI internally:

  • Raiser’s Edge and Luminate are used to store Personal Information voluntarily provided when visitors donate or sign-up for email on our Sites, in addition to the pathway through which the visitor accessed the sign-up or donation form.
  • Luminate also stores how visitors use email, including if and when users open email and which links within the email a user click.
  • CI uses Business Intelligence to provide more rigorous statistical analyses of data maintained internally by CI in Raiser’s Edge and Lumina

CI uses the following tools to collect Personal Information, which are stored externally:

  • Qzzr and Interact are interactive content providers that collect and store Personal Information voluntarily provided by the user, like quiz question responses, first and last name, and email address. Personal Information collected is accessible to CI through a password-protected login and, if an email address is provided, may be cross-referenced with CI internal databases to tailor content to the user’s interests.
  • If a user engages with CI on social media, CI uses Sprout Social which can access basic information on your profile, including your name and profile bio, the size of your following, your social sharing activity and your content preferences. If content is uploaded on conservation.org through a module powered by a third-party tool called Chute, Personal Information volunteered by the user can be stored on the service, accessed by CI and uploaded to Luminate or Raiser’s Edge for internal use.
  • Wistia is a third-party video player used on conservation.org that stores city and country of IP address, length of viewing session and Personal Information voluntarily provided by the user, such as email address.

3. Security

Our Sites incorporate reasonable and appropriate safeguards using industry standard technology to heighten the security, accuracy and privacy of any Personal Information collected by CI.
All online donation transactions are encrypted using the Secure Socket Layers (SSL) protocol. Such transactions are processed through Convio, a VeriSign secured and PCI DSS compliant gateway provider, and are not stored or processed on CI's servers. PCI DSS is the payment card industry security requirement for entities that store, process or transmit cardholder data.

PCI DSS Compliance gives consumers the confidence they need to know that organizations accepting donations are doing so in a verified, secure, and consistent fashion. Convio received Level 1 PCI compliance - the highest level validation. The use of VeriSign SSL Certificates provide for the highest level of encryption available. These comprehensive standards are intended to help CI proactively protect your account data — a responsibility we take very seriously.
